Don Bosco’s presence in the province of Pampanga began in 1956 at the St. Ferdinand Academy in San Fernando, Pampanga with Rev. Fr. Godfrey Roozen, SDB pioneering this Salesian work. After two years, he founded a permanent home for Don Bosco Academy in the nearby town of Bacolor through the generous donation of the De Leon family of a 5- hectare land.
Since then, Don Bosco Academy-Bacolor (DBA) has educated and formed boys and young men who came from all over Pampanga and the neighboring towns of Bataan and Bulacan. DBA is noted for its balanced discipline, youthful religious and character formation, and quality academic education.
However, in October 1, 1995, after 38 years of presence in Bacolor, lahar from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo buried the school causing its operation to cease. The remaining months of that academic year were held at St. Scholastica’s Academy through the kindness of the Benedictine Sisters. Don Bosco Academy reopened the following school year, 1996- 1997, in Mabalacat, Pampanga.
The dream of bringing back Don Bosco Academy to its former site in Bacolor started during the visit of the relic of St. John Bosco in Pampanga on January 12, 2011. Coming from the initiative of the alumni and friends of Don Bosco, this aspiration grew gradually until it was formally launched on July 18, 2015 with an assembly of alumni led by Mr. Levy Laus and the Officers of the Alumni Chapter of Don Bosco Pampanga.
The willingness to sell back the property by the David Family who acquired the old site and started their own Mary the Queen Academy, provided extra impetus to the idea of bringing back DBA to its former location. Together with this, the consent and support given by Archbishop Florentino G. Lavarias, DD, Archbishop of San Fernando, provided additional encouragement. After several meetings at various levels, the approval of the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco for the re- establishment of Don Bosco Academy in Bacolor was finally given on January 20, 2016.
A new Don Bosco Academy in its old site in Bacolor welcomed young boys and girls during its first academic year 2017-2018. Today, DBA stands grateful and committed to keep alive the embers that were almost snuffed out by Mt. Pinatubo; and to once again blaze with brilliance and brightness as it remains true to its motto, proven and tested in no small way... Luctor et Emergo! I struggle. I win!
